Gen Kelsang Wangpo, Resident Teacher at Kadampa Meditation Center Texas, will give a thematic talk at Nasher Sculpture Museum, reflecting on the exhibition Bruce Nauman: Identical, which relates to the idea of memento mori through its intimate ties to creation, death, and remembrance.

Registration is $20 for Members of Nasher Sculpture Center or Kadampa Meditation Center Texas; $25 for non-members. In-person and open to the public. Advance registration required.

You may have heard someone ask, "Does life imitate art? Or does art imitate life?" But when have you heard an inversion of that question - a prompt where art reminds us of our own mortality? "Remember that you have to die." This is the meaning of memento mori. Drawing from traditional Buddhist presentations of meditation, Gen Wangpo will present a powerful way of reflecting on death and our own mortality. If we know how to focus our attention on our own mortality we will see that our perspective of life is altered in a meaningful and beneficial way.

Join us for this special lecture and guided meditations. Let go of the age-old question about the imitations between art and life, and instead find the importance of a moment where we allow our own mortality to be expressed.
