Afro Mingei Art Talks is a series of conversations focused on art and artists of the DFW area. Held in Theaster Gates's Afro Mingei, an experiential space at the Nasher Sculpture Center, speakers will share the stories, challenges, and experiences that have inspired their creative practice. On March 16 Afro Mingei welcomes Jeremy Biggers and Sam Lao.
In this talk, these two married, multi-talented creators will talk about how their careers have evolved, Dallas’s relationship with creatives, sharing a studio space, and more.
Jeremy Biggers, aka Stem and Thorn, is an award-winning artist and muralist. His previous partnerships include IBM, Nike, Adidas, McDonalds, Major League Baseball, Paramount Pictures, Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Fossil, Virgin Hotels, Cheetos, Bud Light, Cadillac, Sprint, and Vice.
Sam Lao is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans across many genres of art, including mural painting and textile art. Her current body of work is designed to be touched, offering the viewer both a visual and tactile experience.
Afro Mingei is an intimate space with limited seating. Ticket buyers are encouraged to arrive early in order to have a seat.
