About the Speakers

Linda Goode Bryant

Linda Goode Bryant is an artist, filmmaker, and Founder and President of Project EATS–a living installation transforming vacant lots and rooftops into neighborhood-based farms catalyzing creativity and cultivating greater food sovereignty across New York City. She is also the Founder of Just Above Midtown gallery–a laboratory that foregrounded the work of African American artists between 1974–1986. She won a Peabody Award for the film Flag Wars (2003) and in 2020, she was a recipient of an Anonymous Was a Woman Award and a United States Artists Berresford Prize. She is a former Guggenheim Fellow.

In 2021, Goode-Bryant created the installation “Are We Really That Different” in collaboration with architect Liz Diller for the exhibition, Social Works, at Gagosian Gallery (NY). In 2022 she was lead faculty for the RAW Material Academy Session 9 and Exhibition, in collaboration with the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Philadelphia. She worked in collaboration with Thomas J. Lax, Curator and Lilia Rocio Taboada, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Media and Performance, in organizing the Just Above Midtown: Changing Spaces exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, October 2022 – February 2023.

Senga Nengudi

Senga Nengudi was born in 1943 in Chicago, Illinois; she lives and works in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Nengudi’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions organized by Henry Moore Institute (2018); the Baltimore Museum of Art (2018); Art + Practice, Los Angeles (2018); the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (2017); and the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans (2017), as well as her recent retrospective, Topologies, which originated at the Lenbachhaus, Munich in 2019 and traveled to Denver Art Museum, Denver (2020); Museu de Arte de São Paulo, Brazil (2020); and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia (2021). Her work has been prominently featured in international biennials including the 57th Venice Biennale (2017) and the 54th Carnegie International (2007).

Nengudi was elected as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2020 and has been a recipient of Denver Art Museum Key Award (2019); Women’s Caucus For Art Lifetime Achievement Award (2010); and the Anonymous Was A Woman Award (2005). Her works are held in institutional collections including The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; The Brooklyn Museum, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; The Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; The Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; Musée National d'Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Tate Modern, London; and Jerusalem Museum of Art, Jerusalem.

About Nasher Prize

The Nasher Prize is awarded annually to an artist whose body of work has had an extraordinary impact on our understanding of sculpture. Each year’s Nasher Prize laureate is selected by an international jury of esteemed museum directors, curators, scholars, and artists. A full season of diverse programming inspired by the laureate – discussions and lectures, family and student programs, community partnerships, and more – engage thousands of art-lovers in Dallas and far beyond, both in-person and virtually. Then, the celebration culminates with the Nasher Prize Award Gala, held at the Nasher Sculpture Center each April.

La Conferencia del Ganador del Premio Nasher, una de las partes más importantes de la programación gratuita, ofrece una plataforma para que el ganador de cada año hable acerca de su trabajo, en cualquier formato, ante una audiencia de estudiantes y el público. Tras la presentación de este año, se celebrará una recepción en la que se lanzará el 2023 Nasher Prize Graduate Symposium Compendium, una publicación de los trabajos académicos presentados por una selección de estudiantes graduados en un evento celebrado en Enero de 2023.
