The art collective Toxic Shock formed in 1981, when the Dallas-based artists Frances Bagley, Julie Cohn, Linda Finnell (deceased), Debora Hunter and Susan Magilow produced their first collaborative work for an exhibition at Dallas City Hall. While each continued to practice as individual artists, the body of work that Toxic Shock has created together over more than four decades comments critically on power, politics and their perspectives as women artists. This October, Toxic Shock will debut a new site-specific installation in the Nasher’s Public Gallery that explores the experience of aging in an intensely polarizing political landscape.
