Tony Cragg Loop

Limited Edition of Sculptures by Tony Cragg Produced Exclusively for Nasher Sculpture Center

Small-scale works by famed British artist, available in Nasher Store, help support Nasher exhibitions and education programs.

The Nasher Sculpture Center announces the release of a limited edition series of sculptures commissioned by the Nasher from renowned British artist Tony Cragg. The small sculpture edition, called Loop, is made from Jesmonite, a resin-based sculpting material, and is similar to the large works from his 2011 exhibition at the Nasher, Seeing Things. The edition of 30 is available in two colors, turquoise and orange, with an equal number of each color, and measures 14 ¾ x 7 7/8 x 6 ¾ in. (37.5 x 20 x 17 cm). Each has a stamped signature on the base. The sale of the edition will directly benefit the Nasher’s exhibition and education programming.

"Tony Cragg has a long and significant history with the Nasher Sculpture Center, from works in the collection to his participation in the Nasher’s opening, to his enormously successful exhibition here. So it's particularly appropriate that he inaugurate this new and important fundraising program for the Nasher, and we're enormously grateful to the artist for so generously creating a work of such compelling quality for our benefit," said Director Jeremy Strick.
Tony Cragg has been widely hailed as one of the leading sculptors of our time, acclaimed for producing an impressive range of innovative and varied forms which draw upon the artist's broad intellectual interests in science and literature. From his first solo exhibition in 1979 to the present, his work has received exceptional recognition, and the artist has been bestowed with the art world’s most prestigious awards, including the Turner Prize in 1988. He also represented Britain at the Venice Biennale that same year. More importantly, Cragg has been credited with reviving the sculptural tradition and pushing it in new, exciting directions with an intuitive and emotional response to form and material. Loop is a small-scale edition based on a series of works called Rational Beings—compositions that suggest facial profiles that spiral fluidly or stagger upward from certain points of view—several of which were featured in Seeing Things, Cragg’s 2011 Nasher exhibition. From certain angles, all traces of a figure disappear, only to reappear as one rounds the sculpture.

Cragg’s edition is the first of a series of multiples by a variety of artists that have been affiliated with the Nasher. Loop will be available for purchase in the downtown Nasher Store as well as on the Nasher website: http://store.nashersculpturecenter.org/ or by calling 214.242.5110.
