Join us on opening weekend of Roni Horn for a conversation with renowned writer and critic Lynne Tillman, who collaborated with Horn on the catalogue for her 1995 exhibition, Gurgles, Sucks, Echoes.

Lynne Tillman Biography

Lynne Tillman’s novels include No Lease on Life (Finalist for a National Book Critics Circle Award (1998), and American Genius, a Comedy (2006), which The Millions named “One of the best books of the millennium, so far.” Her fiction collections include This Is Not It, 22 stories responding to 23 contemporary artists’ work; Someday This Will Be Funny, and The Complete Madame Realism and Other Stories (2016). Tillman’s books of nonfiction and essays include The Broad Picture and The Velvet Years: Warhol's Factory 1965-67, with Stephen Shore’s Factory photographs, and Bookstore: The Life and Times of Jeannette Watson and Books & Co. Tillman’s second collection of essays What Would Lynne Tillman Do? was a Finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in Criticism (2014). 

Tillman’s writing has appeared in many artists’ books and museum catalogues, including Jeff Koons; Barbara Kruger; Jim Hodges; Roni Horn; Joan Jonas; David Wojnarowicz; Carroll Dunham, Raymond Pettibon, Justine Kurland, and Cindy Sherman. She writes a bi-monthly column, “In These Intemperate Times,” for Frieze art magazine. She is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation grant for arts writing.  Tillman recently completed her sixth novel, Men and Appparitions, to be published in March 2018 by Soft Skull/Catapult.
