Avant-Garde Society and Artist Circle Holiday

Featuring a conversation with Lawrence Weschler and Alva Noë

December 8, 2015
7 - 9 pm

Join us for a celebration that is both merry and bright featuring food, drink, and a conversation with author Lawrence Weschler and philosopher Alva Noë. Open to the Artist Circle and the Avant-Garde Society.

On the occasion of the publication of his latest book, Strange Tools: Art and Human Nature, Alva Noë will join Lawrence Weschler in a conversation welling out from Noë's seminal contention that art at its root is fundamentally a philosophical practice, and philosophy an aesthetical one.

Conversation: 7 pm
Holiday party and book signing to follow.

Alva Noë is professor of philosophy at the University of California, one of the country's foremost philosophers of mind, and formerly the philosopher in residence with the William Forsythe Dance Company.

Lawrence Weschler is a veteran New Yorker writer and the author, among others, of the biography of phenomenological artist Robert Irwin, Seeing is Forgetting the Name of the Thing One Sees, and Mr Wilson's Cabinet of Wonder about Los Angeles's Museum of Jurassic Technology.

Avant-Garde Society and Artist Circle members, please RSVP by December 1 to memberevents@nashersculpturecenter.org.
