Avant-Garde Society History

The Avant-Garde Society was born out of Raymond Nasher’s commitment to arts education and the desire to give members of the Nasher Sculpture Center the opportunity to participate in a meaningful and unique way with both the local and broader art communities.

The first event in October 2006 was called “In Pursuit of Picasso”, where members had the incredible opportunity to hear Raymond Nasher speak about building his collection and personal reminiscences behind his favorite pieces.

Avant-Garde Society Experiences

Embark with us on adventures to locations of artistic interest. These day trips include exclusive entrée into private collectors’ homes, artists’ studio tours, gallery and museum installations, as well as other special venues. Often in conjunction with a particular event, such as an art fair or museum opening, these special experiences are always educationally stimulating and a wonderful opportunity to get to know your fellow patrons better.
