Material as Meaning: Cochineal Ink

Adult Workshop for Nasher Members
September 24, 2020 6 - 7 p.m.
Register

Nasher Members are invited to join artist Analise Minjarez for a virtual workshop where participants will create their own natural ink from crushed cochineal insects. Cochineal, often found on prickly pears, is a natural red dye used in Minjarez’s work to represent personal and familial ties to the U.S.-Mexico border. Participants will learn a recipe for creating and using this botanical ink on cotton paper – all while honoring the prickly pear bug together.

Registration is $10, which includes all materials needed to participate. Space is limited. After registering, participants will receive instructions on how to collect their kit from the Nasher Sculpture Center. Attendees can also choose to have kits mailed to them at an additional cost.

This workshop is exclusively for Nasher Members, is designed for adults aged 17+, and takes place on Zoom. Download Zoom on your computer for the best experience.
