Nasher Sculpture Center’s The Great Create Family Fundraising Event, Benefiting Nasher Education Programs, Raises Record Amount

Third-annual fundraising event brings artists and families together to help support Nasher’s imaginative and vital outreach programs

On Sunday, April 26, 2015, the Nasher Sculpture Center, along with Co-Chairs Courtney and Jeff Sinelli and Meredith Land Moore and Xan Moore, hosted the third-annual The Great Create: By Artists. For Kids. This sold-out family fundraiser welcomed over 500 kids and adults into the Nasher garden as they celebrated youth art education and appreciation with a fun-filled afternoon. Over $130,000 was raised, the most the annual fundraiser has ever brought in, with all proceeds from the event directly benefiting the Nasher Sculpture Center.

The third installment of this event included an impressive list of contemporary artists that worked directly with the children in attendance, including The Color Condition (Marianne Newsom and Sunny Sliger), Kristen Cochran, Liz Glynn, M, Margaret Meehan, Jason Middlebrook, Francisco Moreno, Allison V. Smith, Tony Tasset, and Trans.lation (Adu Bhattarai, Rick Lowe, Cynthia Saathoff).

The Great Create: By Artists. For Kids is a celebration of youth art education and appreciation featuring a fun-filled afternoon of hands-on art activities and workshops in the Nasher Garden led by local and world-renowned artists, as well as live entertainment and kid-friendly food.  The program is geared toward children 12 and under, and teens ages 13 and up invited to serve as “Art Ambassadors” to assist the artists and younger attendees.

All proceeds from the event will enable the Nasher Sculpture Center to continue providing outstanding youth education programs throughout the year, such as the 3:01 Club After-school Program, Summer Institute for Teens and free student tours. Education programs account for more than 33% of the Center’s attendance each year, enabling many students and families to experience the Nasher at no cost.
